The BWY Foundation Course is a 60-hour personal development course for anyone who has been attending yoga classes for 2 years or more with a recognised yoga teacher.
*** From the 17th of May 2021 organised indoor sport and indoor group exercise classes in studios, gyms, and community facilities will hopefully be allowed to resume here in the UK. This is the date I am expecting to be able to go back to teaching indoor group classes. How this will work in practice, i.e. what social distancing rules will be in place, etc, is still to be communicated, and depending on how many people I can fit into the room will affect the cost, location, and dates of this course. However, my plan is to host a FREE taster session in May or early June and monthly sessions would then be following.
If you are interested in taking part in the next course please contact me by filling in the form on the contacts page and I will add you to the list so you will be the first to know once I have more information.
The aim of the course is to go deeper into the teachings of yoga than a typical yoga class allows, providing students with the knowledge, the tools, and the space to deepen their relationship with yoga. The course will cover a comprehensive range of asana, pranayama, meditation, mudra, mantra, Kriya, yogic anatomy (chakras, nadis), relaxation, as well as covering the history of yoga, yoga philosophy (including the Yoga Sutras attributed to Patanjali) and the different schools and paths of yoga.
I took the course myself in 2007 and as well as deepening my personal yoga practice and knowledge of yoga, I would say it was a life-changing experience.
There will be a free taster session for those who are interested, where you can find out more about the course, ask questions and meet and practice yoga with me. Spaces will be limited and booking will be essential.
The BWY Foundation course is for:
* students who wish to deepen their personal yoga practice, increase their knowledge of yoga and meet like-minded yogis.
* those considering yoga teacher training as a future option – the course provides a good introduction to and preparation for Certificate and Diploma teaching courses
To qualify for the certificate, a minimum of 80% attendance is required.
The course follows the BWY syllabus and is approximately 50% practice and 50% theoretical. Although there is no compulsory written homework – no essays – students will be expected to keep a personal practice journal (written, auditory, photographic, or other) and background research (reading, listening to audiobooks, watching videos etc) is encouraged.
Applications are welcome from students from all backgrounds, with a minimum of 2 years consistent practice with a teacher. Students will also need to be current members of the British Wheel of Yoga to start the course – if you are not a member already, joining is easy.
Investment: TBC. Payment plans are available and there is a refund policy in place.
Students will need to be current members of the British Wheel of Yoga to start the course – if you are not a member already, joining is easy. The BWY membership fee is currently £37
Venue: The Howard Venue, 39 Egerton Avenue, Hextable, Kent, BR8 7LG
The free taster session is for you to find out more about the course and experience a taster of the philosophy that we will be covering, as well as doing some asana, pranayama, and meditation practices. This is where you can get a flavour of the content and meet other applicants and ask questions. You do not have to come to the taster session to apply for a space on the course but it is recommended.
If you are unable to attend the taster sessions, though you can still apply for a space on the course, before you do, you will need to attend one of my classes and have a chat either in person or on the phone, to in some part make up for the missed taster session.
If after the taster session/chat with me, you decide you definitely want to go ahead and apply for a space on the course, then I will email/give you an application form to fill in. At that stage, if you are not one of my current students, you will need to give me the details of your current regular teacher who I will then approach for a reference. If you are one of my current students, there is no need for a reference as I will be your reference.
